Waves from ships with goods and fabrics from all over the world crash into the Bibby Challenge, 2018

The “Bibby Challenge” was rocking on the Elbe, in the middle of the city. For months, refugees from the Yugoslavian civil war were housed on the container ship. Living space was limited: four people on 10-12 square meters. Adnan Softic, who had lived on the ship as a young man, is far from romanticizing the experience. But extreme situations can also create closeness. Stories are remembered, told and retold – here on this floating makeshift that was part of Hamburg and yet something else.
